Proudly serving the community of:
- Waycross (Ware County)
Why is HEARTS so concerned with the early onset of underage drinking?
According to the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, using alcohol and drugs before the brain has fully developed increases the risk for future addiction to alcohol and drugs dramatically. Young people who start drinking alcohol before age 15 are 5 times more likely to develop alcohol abuse or dependence than people who first used alcohol at age 21 or older. Research for drug use and drug addiction have found similar results.
One of the best ways for you to get involved in your local community's prevention efforts is to join your local STEPUp Workgroup. We'd love to see you at our next meeting!
