Facilitator Trainings
With all our programs, we rely on individuals in our communities to be our facilitators. We use the term "facilitator" rather than teacher to express the very important role they play in maintaining the health and vitality of the groups experiencing our parenting programs. The wonderful thing about these programs is that almost anyone can be trained to be a facilitator, and we have regularly scheduled training programs to bring Nurturing Parenting Programs to local communities.
Nurturing Parenting Programs:
The Nurturing Parenting Programs are family-based and focus on increasing nurturing parenting skills. These programs include a variety of activities that work to build empathy, love and compassion, along with discipline to form healthy parent-child bonds. Training is a Four-Part Process:

Part 1: Intro to Nurturing Parenting Programs (NPP Philosophy)
In this one-day training the participant learns about the history and philosophy of Nurturing Parenting Programs.
Part 2: Learning the Curriculum
[After completion of Part 1] Each participant receives in-depth knowledge of a specific Nurturing Program's material and the opportunity to facilitate part of the curriculum under the guidance of the program Trainer/Consultant. It is a two- to four-day training, depending on individual program requirements.
Part 3: Facilitation Training & Program Preparation
[After completion of Parts 1 & 2] Introduces the participants to valuable facilitation and coordination information to help them prepare for and manage program expenses, materials, volunteers and participants. This training differentiates and promotes the skills of the facilitator and coordinator and distinguishes them from one another. It also equips the training participant to recognize various learning styles and needs of adult learners. It is a one- or two-day training, depending on individual program requirements.
Part 4: Program Implementation and Evaluation
[After completing training Parts 1, 2 and 3 and submitting the Intent Application] The training participant is assigned a mentor, who will help by offering the following:
- Technical assistance around recruitment and referral
- Technical assistance around session implementation
- Quality assurance insuring participants are receiving information
- Problem solving
- Training regarding the review and interpretation of group assessment scores and how to tailor the information to bolster program participant deficits
- A minimum of two site visits*
- Fidelity checks
*If the facilitator is not within HEARTS catchment area then the facilitator can submit videos of facilitation for feedback and may participate in video/ phone conference mentoring.
Part 4 of the training process begins with program delivery. The training participant must successfully facilitate and complete the Nurturing Program for which they are trained. The success of the program will be assessed based on the fidelity of program delivery, number of participants completing the program, the level of retention, the length of time it takes to complete the program delivery, and the participants' assessment scores. After this evaluation, if there are no recommendations for further technical assistance, the training participant will receive a certificate of completion.
