Welcome Megan Pope to the HEARTS for Families Team!
Megan Montgomery Pope joined the HEARTS for Families team as the Communications Coordinator on October 20th of 2015. Megan hails from the quiet foothills of the Northwest Georgia mountains. She resides in the rural area of Cedartown (the tiny town’s substantial claims to fame include the late Sterling Holloway and Nick Chubb, the current UGA football star!) with her husband, Justin, their six and a half month old, Charlee Beth, and their Shih Tzu, who is named after Megan’s inspiration: Audrey Hepburn. The Pope family is part of Victory Baptist Church in Rockmart, GA, which is the church where Megan was raised. She is truly the stereotypical Southern woman, from her deep Southern accent and ever-present strand of pearls, right down to her daily (over)dose of sweet tea and her insatiable desire to monogram everything.
Megan is a graduate of Mercer University. She holds a BS in Human Services with a concentration in Substance Abuse Counseling. Megan brings a wealth of experience to our table in a number of areas. As a freshman in college, she held an elected position as the Southern Region Vice President of DECA, An Association of Marketing Students. This position gave her the opportunity to grow professionally through travel across the Southern United States for motivational speaking engagements, facilitating student workshops, and hosting large-scale events. In addition, she received professional speaking training, authored published articles, and was able to personally learn from and engage with Fortune 500 executives as well as political figures. During college, she also completed an internship with the Georgia Department of Education, where she collaborated with another Georgia college student to create a magazine that served as a resource for Career, Agriculture, and Technical educators across the state. In the non-profit realm, Megan has been an active volunteer with several organizations, including work with the Ronald McDonald House through her sorority and work for the Muscular Dystrophy Association through DECA. Megan has a work background in education and social services.
Lending strength to her professional and educational background, Megan brings experience from her personal history that includes a struggle with substance abuse. She is an active member of the recovery community, and is a strong advocate for substance abuse prevention and recovery. She has spent the last few years traveling across the state and sharing her story as a prevention advocate. The combination of her professional experience and the passions that were born from her personal journey are what led Megan to our organization, and we are excited to be able to utilize her unique skill set as a tool in our future endeavors.
As the Communications Coordinator, Megan will be heading up our social media branding and authoring articles for our blog. She will also be getting her feet wet within a few of our regions and absorbing as much as she can, which will provide insight toward creating ways of increasing our visibility and furthering our reach. Please join us in warmly welcoming Megan Pope to the HEARTS family!
