Sharing is Not a Weakness
There are millions of things that we teach our children every day throughout their lives. We teach them the simple things like how to walk and talk, all the way to the harder things like picking themselves up after a breakup or how to get back on their feet after losing a loved one. We’re constantly teaching them and showing them how to be strong and move forward, but are we also teaching them the power of speaking up for themselves when things aren’t as ‘happy go lucky’?
Teaching our children and ourselves that sharing with others personal aspects of and challenges in our lives is a way to seek help or guidance -- that much needed light at the end of the tunnel. Sharing what we are going through is not a sign of weakness, but a sign of self-awareness and strength; understanding that some things are bigger than ourselves; that we might need a little help to pick ourselves up again, get back on the right track, or possibly for our own safety. Sharing what we are going through allows someone else to understand that we may need a little extra time on a project, or to find a different babysitter for the kids, or simply asking someone to pray for us through our current circumstances.
